Hashers Dispense Sexual Advice

Nerve.com columnist Kate Sullivan doesn’t necessarily write sex advice. Instead, she relies on others to actually provide the words of wisdom. In her weekly “Sex Advice From …” column, she has drawn from cellists, knitters, temps, magicians, tribute bands, bike jousters and Santas, just to name a few.

Nerve.com calls itself “a smart, honest magazine on sex, with cliché-shattering prose and fiction as well as striking photographs of naked people that capture more than their flesh.”

Recently, Sullivan turned to Hash House Harriers to provide some sexual enlightenment. The responses of five hashers may be found at http://www.nerve.com/regulars/sexadvicefrom/hashhouseharriers/.

PBS of the Portland Humpin’ Hash was among the hashers interviewed. “How I managed to be interviewed is still a bit beyond me, other than I guess I made a rather strong impression on a hasher in England (whom I've never met in person, but have exchanged emails with) and he thought I would be ‘perfect’ to interview when asked by the Nerve.com,” she said.

Others interviewed include Hardware (from a hash not identified), Jooost of the Bangkok Hash, Shampoo of the Hogtown Hash (Toronto), and Underwear of the Cantabrigensis Hash (Cambridge, England).

Not all the questions and answers made the final cut, however. For example, PBS reports that she was asked what is the best way to get a hasher to go home with you (Half-Mind Catalog readers will have to ask PBS personally for her answer to that one). “There was some stuff about anal fingering of one’s boyfriend and I made a joke about it that she laughed so hard at I was afraid that would be quoted as actual advice, rather than tongue in cheek -- or finger in, as it were.”

She [Sullivan] didn't ask me any size questions, which was about the only thing I was truly prepared to answer,” PBS said.

“I wish the questions had been in print form, as it would have been much easier to come up with witty remarks, but there was a lot of fun in having to fly by the seat of my running tights,” PBS said, adding, “Everything was a surprise, a laugh and good fun to answer. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!”
