Ch-Ch-Changes

Dear Half-Minds,

The Half-Mind Catalog, for the first six years of its life, was a one-man show. And I was that man. In 2001 a couple of friends offered to help out, joining me as co-editors. In 2003 the three of us put out a call for additional help. Hops came in as general editor, joined by an awesome cast of hashing co-editors, and the HMC became the first international hashing site to have an actual mismanagement committee.

I think you'll agree that Hops and his gang have done - and continue to do - a wonderful job. Thanks to their efforts, the HMC has become a tremendous resource for hashers and hashing worldwide.

Now for the changes. I'm sorry to have to tell you that Hops is gone, but happy to tell you we've recruited a replacement: Ra, a well-known interhasher. Ra's been working with our contact editors to turn that unruly pile of information into a proper database, one that readers can update and edit themselves. Perhaps, in time, we can do something similar for our international upcoming events calendar.

As to what other changes Ra has in mind, I can't say, but they're coming. I know his goal is to make this site an even more useful resource for hashers. Please drop by the HMC occasionally over the next few months to see what's new, and let us know what you like and don't like.

I plan to stay involved with the HMC, but less so than before. For the past three years I've been trying to carve out more free time for other writing projects. Since I still have to work a 40-hour week, and am determined not to give up my hashing Saturdays until someone pries them from my cold dead fingers, that time has to come from somewhere else.

From now on, you'll find most of my writing on the Half-Mind Weblog, my personal weblog (warning: non-hash content), and Asia Pacific Harrier magazine.

And finally, a request. A lot of hashers still call this site "Flying Booger's Half-Mind Catalog." If you're one of them, would you please stop already? It hasn't been my site for years. It's a site for hashers, by hashers. It's your site.

On-On!

  Flying Booger
