The Adventures of a fellow Postdoc (EDIW Rants)

(Editor' Note: There are some great writiers out in Hashdom. I subscribe to or sometimes browse various egroups of Hash clubs I used to run with to check up on the old gangs and often find some great stuff. and I push them to Rant or let me use there stuff :-) Personally I'm looking forward to more reports from Obeastiologist on the continuing adventures of Zhizong)

I’ve decided to make my foray into the “non-hash” related realm of trail news, but not quite in the same vein as the hare-razors that have come (ha ha, I said come) before me. Instead of expressing anger or using disgusting swear words that could result in jail time in some states; I’m going to keep you wankers up to date with the life and times of Zhizong, one of my co-workers. This won’t be a regular update, but only come in intermittent installments, (read, I got nothing else better to say or do).

Zhizong is my fellow postdoc from China, and is currently sitting immediately behind me, so keep in mind while reading this that he could be looking over my shoulder at any moment. Not sure why anyone out there would care about this, but it could obviously result in my termination so I thought I’d mention it. The first thing in the world of Zhizong that I’d like to discuss with you is the problems he was having figuring out why some states have two license plates and others only one. I obviously have no idea, nor do I care. Yet this took up 30’ of my day.

In an effort to “get to the bottom of this”, Zhizong decided that he should spend the previous evening w/ a notepad “keeping score” on which cars in his parking lot had one vs. two license plates. His conclusion…some did and some didn’t, but the majority of them had two. Well surprise, surprise, he lives in Maryland. He still couldn’t understand why some people have only one plate. When I asked him if he checked to see what states each of the single plate cars were from , he looked at me like I just shattered his entire world. Trying to explain this state to state variation to a postdoc who experiences a range of emotion something like a Vulcan is very difficult. I just keep getting back a “does not compute—highly illogical” look. He just can’t grasp the concept that the different states have different laws. What did I learn from this? absolutely nothing. It was an utter waste of time and energy for me to hear this absurd story, another waste to type it and another waste for you to read it.
And now on to this weeks hash...

On On, Obeastiologist

On-On!
